The Local Governments Program

About the Program

The Local Governments Program was established at İzmir Vocational School in 1984 and is located on the Buca Education Faculty Campus. It provides two years of education after high school. The program admits 70 students each year. Student selection is conducted through a centralized exam administered by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM).

The aim of the Local Government Program is to contribute to the more effective and efficient functioning of local governments by providing municipalities, provincial local administrations and other public institutions and organizations with qualified personnel. The goal is to train effective and high-quality candidates who are knowledgeable, talented, and research-oriented, and who can transfer their knowledge to the workplace. Within this scope, training is provided on topics such as politics, economics, law, public administration, urbanization, environmental management, local services, and digitalization in local service delivery.

During education and training, students are prepared for their profession in line with these objectives, and efforts are made to ensure they acquire recent developments related to their profession. A 30-day internship is implemented to support and reinforce the knowledge taught in the courses offered within the program. Graduates of the program can transfer to undergraduate programs in related fields and pursue a bachelor’s degree.

Graduates can work in municipalities, provincial local administrations, city councils, non-governmental organizations, public survey organizations, and similar public or private workplaces.
